"'I must go to Canada and look for Jack'" (36).Polly leaves her children and family behind to go find her husband in Canada. She has waited years to see him, and is yearning to find out how his life is in Canada.
She arrives in Halifax, and begins her 8 hour trip to Saskatchewan, hopelessly excited to reunite with her beloved John Wilson.
However, John does not share this same excitement. Instead, having Polly with him complicates his new life in Canada. He wishes nothing other than for her to go back home.
