At 8 years old Jean Grey accidentally loses control of her abilities and causes a car accident that kills her parents. Professor X finds Jean and takes her to his school, promising her a safe home and a new family. However he also blocks her memories and puts psychic blocks to limit her powers. In reality, Jeans father survived and purposely abandoned Jean out of fear and hate, giving her over to Charles.
