19 jun 1953 año - Julius and Ethel Rosenberg commit espionage on behalf of the Soviet Union and are executed on June 19

Descripción:

A major worry during the Cold War and in general during the 1950s was if there was a communist presence inside the U.S. (spies and communism in general). Julius and Ethel were both one of the first cases of the U.S.'s superstition of conspiracy. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were tried and then executed much later on June 19 for espionage, despite maintaining their innocence throughout the whole process.

The actions of the U.S. illustrated the tense and insecure atmosphere during the Cold War. This atmosphere spawned some questionable decisions by the U.S., one of them being the Julius and Ethel Rosenberg case. Although evidence was later found, after the fall of the Soviet Union, that Julius actually did commit espionage, people considered their death penalty to be too severe.
