14 mayo 1955 año - Warsaw Pact

Descripción:

The Soviet saw NATO as a threat and formed its own alliance called the Warsaw Pact. It included the Soviet Union, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania. The aim was to dominate Central and Eastern Europe. For 36 years, NATO and the Warsaw Pact never directly waged war against each other in Europe. However, the United States, the Soviet Union, and their respective allies executed strategic policies aimed at the containment of each other in Europe. The Warsaw Pact was significant in that it came to be seen as quite a potential militaristic threat and was a sign of Communist dominance and an opponent to American capitalism.

Reason for color - The pact became a symbol of Soviet dominance in Eastern Europe.
