RB Bennett elected in 1930, William Lyon Mackenzie King came on for his third term in 1935 longest serving prime minister 21 years. Thought that laissez-faire economy style would turn everything around on its own, tried to introduce a “new deal”, shot down by courts (Bennett). Introduced social programs and created what we know as the welfare state in Canada (King).
