When Truman took office as president, he decided to look into and take action on giving Jews a homeland in Palestine. Great Britain was opposed to this, as it wasnt in their economic and political interest. Eventually, the U.N. divided Palestine into two different states, Jewish and Arab, with the Jewish state taking in displaced Jews after WWII. Conflict grew between the Arab and Jewish states, but Truman recognized the states Israel anyways.
