The Yalta Conference was the second wartime meeting of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the leader of the Soviet Union Joseph Stalin. The three leaders began to setup what post World War ll Europe would look like. Some of these promises that were made at the meeting were such as Stalin promising open elections in countries in Europe to go to war with Japan in Asia and the promise that Japan's land will be returned from the land that was lost during the Russo-Japanese War. The agreements made during the conference were kept secret until the relations between the United States and the Soviet Union turned into the Cold War.
