The seat came from the sky according to legends into the lap of the first king(Asantehene who was identified by wearing sandals and being covered by an umbrella). The seats symbolized leadership and it is believed to house the spirit of the Ashanti nation. Each of the stools are believed to be the owner’s soul and when it isn’t used it is propped against the wall so other souls may relax on it. The royal one must never touch the ground, no one must sit on it, and wars have been fought (British) so people couldn’t sit on it. Wooden stools of men and women take on their sunsum. Still exists in the present. Ghana had a lot of gold, gold symbolises royalty. Wooden stools were coming of age gifts for men and women, contained their sunsum, no one sits on it but the person it was made for. It is from the Shanti people in South c central Ghana.
