5 ene 1958 año - The Second Five Year Plan "The Great Leap Forward."
Descripción:
In 1958, Mao Zedong’s governments announced another five year plan called the Great Leap Forward. The hope for this was to increase the industrial output so that it matches that of the west. To accomplish this, China brought in modern machinery. Iron and steel could now be produced in blast furnaces which was encouraged by the government. People would often lie about how much they could produce in order to satisfy the government and with multiple countries saying this, this made China as a whole look better than it actually is.
With that, farmers and factory workers got less from their work due to the popularity of new machinery. This forced them to work long hours. Ultimately, the Great Leap Forward failed to accomplish what it was set to do. Industrial output decreased which lead to food shortages causing 20 million people to starve to death between 1958 and 1960.
