Only two days after the German invasion of Poland began, Britain and France declared war on Germany, beginning the Second World War in Europe. Chamberlain had warned previously that an invasion of Poland would force Britain into war, and Britain and France had made an agreement to retaliate if Poland faced a German invasion. Though Poland was defeated swiftly, a bloody war that would pull in many countries (including colonies) and would last for 6 grueling years. Though it was the beginning of a massive global conflict, action against Germany after years of Appeasement was finally taken.
