1839 CE - 1860 CE The Opium War(s) was an armed conflict between the Qing Dynasty of China and the British Empire. The conflict was over British trade in China mainly revolving around the trade of Opium, which the British traded in China for silver which was then trade back for many luxury goods. The clash ended with British victory due to their technological advantages over China and the defeat was a key reason for many rebellions such as the Taiping Rebellion. (5.1)
