The Panama canal was built in the Central American country of Panama and is still incredibly helpful today. It is a canal that connects through Central America and makes it so ships do not have to travel around the tip of South America to pass through. The Canal was able to be built after America supported a Columbian rebellion, which allowed them to fund and protect the project, which took a whopping 10 years. It was extremely beneficial to the US because it strengthened economic and military claims.
