1 ene 1900 año - Boxer Rebellion

Descripción:

- One of the primary perpetrators of the uprising, members of an anti-foreigner group called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, were simply called Boxers in the Anglicized format of the word. Much of the violence that was spewed out by various anti-foreigner groups was conducted by the Society.

- The Qing Empress actively encouraged anti-foreigner organizations throughout the course of the Boxer Rebellion - often supplying them or voicing her support for them in private.

-In the traditional sense, the term “Rebellion” could be considered misleading when discussing the Boxer Rebellion, as the circumstances behind it greatly differed from what a rebellion is typically defined as. This is due to the nature of the rebellion, which was considered a rebellion against the foreign powers that had asserted their influence in China - specifically emissaries or citizens derived from a foreign power, Chinese Christians, Chinese missionaries, and other groups. Instead of an uprising against the government in power, the Boxer Rebellion was a rebellion within one country against the representatives and citizens of foreign powers.

- The Boxer Rebellion was organized to rebel against the foreign and domestic innovations to Chinese society, in favor of more traditional custom.

- Due to the consistent threat to their interests in China as a result of the Boxer Rebellion - and China’s negligence towards quelling it - the foreign nations that had organized large trading systems deployed soldiers of their own to put down the Boxers. Moderate quantities of soldiers from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, the United States, and other smaller nations had been assigned to guard their centers of trade in China and stamp out any Boxer resistance towards their imposition of their influence.
