3 jul 1848 año - Seneca Falls Convention

Descripción:

women’s rights convention
Held by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott
Declaration of Sentiments read, 100 signatures, 36 from men
2 days - first day only women(approx. 200 attended), the 2nd day men came too
passed 11 out of 12 of their resolutions (all except for right to vote - didn’t want to ask for too much → wasn’t that they thought women shouldn’t vote, but instead they thought their other resolutions had a higher chance of gaining support if they didn’t ask for voting rights, because it was more radical and had less support)
side note: it takes another 72 years for women to get the right to vote
“Separate spheres”: there are 2 separate spheres, one for men and one for women, and for American society to flourish, we need to respect those spheres → has Biblical support (aka Adam and Eve), but wasn’t intended to punish women, was rather intended to make society better and more efficient
Women’s spheres: domestic life, the kitchen, and schools and education
Men’s spheres: labor, bringing in the money, and politics
