The Governor General of New France, Pierre François de Rigaud, Marquis de Vaudreuil-Cavagnal signed the Articles of Capitulation of Montreal, granting the British Army, led by Major-General Jeffery Amherst control over the city. This effectively removed French control over Canada, brining an end to the battles of the French and Indian War.
