Princess Merida or medieval Scotland is the first Disney princess to have absolutely no love interest. When her parents invite young men to compete in a series of games for her hand in marriage, Merida fights for her own hand and wins. She turns her mother into a bear by accident, and then goes on a journey with her mom to turn her human again.
