established in 2003 under subsection 2A (1) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172). MPFN is the Supreme Council responsible for urban and rural planning in Peninsular Malaysia. The MPFN was created to coordinate all policies and activities related to urban and rural planning to ensure more balanced and sustainable use of resources and development at the state and country levels. The duties of the Council are as follows:
To promote within the country, in terms of national policy, urban and rural planning as an effective and efficient tool for improving the environment in terms of physical and towards the achievement of a sustainable development within the country;
To advise the Federal Government or the Government of any State, on matters relating to town and village planning required under Act 172; and
To perform such other duties as may be assigned to the Council under Act 172.
