The US economy, troubled by foreclosures, loans not being paid, and problems that had been building over years, dove into a recession. President George Bush, Henry Paulson, and US lawmakers organized a bailout of banks, businesses, and many other things to get the economy flowing again. President Obama signed into law a $787 stimulus package, which went to tax cuts and spending increases.
