Gavrilo Princip, who was a part of the Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand, killed the Austro-Hungarian heir and his wife. This isn't truly the cause of WWI, but was used as an excuse to enter the war. The kindling was already laid, but it was the gasoline on the fire.
