Not long after Lenin’s death Joseph Stalin decided to take his part of being the leader of the Soviet Union. When he became leader he collectivized farming and had potential enemies executed. Stalin then aligned with the US and Britain in World War II. Soon after he engaged in a tense relationship with the West. At this time the West was called the Cold War. The Soviet Union transformed from a peasant society to a industrial military power.
