The Allies’ reliance on WWI battle tactics showed its ineffectiveness against German Blitzkrieg as Nazi tanks punched through the Ardennes forest to evade the highly defended and immobile Maginot Line, conquering France in a little over a month. The conquest was both ideological and practical, as Hitler was able to vindicate WWI humiliation, timing the final seizure of Paris for Bastille Day, and Vichy France, the puppet government which would rule for the next five years, constructed additional concentration camps and supported Hitler’s purification of Western Europe.
