5 abr 1764 año - The Sugar Act

Descripción:

Colonist kept on evading the Molasses Act by illegally using French Molasses. Now because of this, the English Market in rum, sugar, and molasses went down.On April 5th, 1764, Chancellor of the Exchequer Greenville decided to reduce the payment of English Molasses down by three pence per gallon, but Parliament also decided to tax more foreign goods, such as sugar, coffee, cambric and painted calico, certain wines, and pimiento. After the tax was enforced, the rum industry declined immensely throughout the colonies and made it difficult for the colonist to trade. The colonist were angry yet again with Great Britain. It would be this act and many more that would eventually cause the colonist to rebel against Great Britain.
