A state prison on the east side of Paris, known as the Bastille, was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob on 14 July 1789. The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy's dictatorial rule, and the event became one of the defining moments in the Revolution that followed. It is significant to the citizens of the Third estate to join forces and take action for the first time which would result in a meaningful impact directly in accordance to the King. This was the first physical progression of the French Revolution, since the steps before were in verbal and ideal concepts which progressively united the Third Estate into making this move.
