Timothy was the younger brother of Nephi, and by all indications also preached with power to the people. His preaching was not received, and the people became so angry at him that they stoned him to death.
It is not clear if Nephi was present when his brother was stoned. However, it was not long after that he came and raised Timothy from the dead. He did this in the view of the local tribe, and the people were so astonished that they greatly feared Nephi.
Because of this great miracle there were some who began to repent and turn back to God. There was relatively few in this, but it was the first success that Nephi and the rest had.
