Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807, followed by the United States in 1808. Throughout the early 1800s many other states abolished their slave trades. This abolishment, however, did not eliminate slavery entirely. Slavery still continued in many areas, especially in areas, such as North America, where both male and female and slaves were imported, allowing a bloodline of slaves to form. It was not until 1833 that Britain truly abolished slavery. During this time, Britain also patrolled the west coast of Africa, ensuring that slaves were no longer traded. (4.1)(4.2)
