While attending a play named “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. just a few days after Lee’s surrender, Abraham Lincoln was shot. Lincoln died 9 hours later. The assassin was named John Wilkes Booth, a pro-secessionist actor.
