The conquests of the Incas were led by Fransisco Pizzaro. He arrived at Cuzco with around 600 soldiers right after an internal dispute and took the capital by 1533. They called the ruling elites together for a meeting and killed off most of them, which lessened the resistance forces. The people didn't put up as much resistance either as they did not like the leadership very much. This conquest was also made easier by the spread of Smallpox which had arrived before and weakened the civilization. The Spanish looted the city, and took gold and silver from Cuzco's temple, even stopping to take it from embalmed bodies. By 1540, the Spanish had become the rulers of the land. (4.3)
