On this day Bulgaria formally declared independence from the Ottoman Empire, under much the same circumstances as Romania. Bulgaria struggled with regional disputes and dictatorship in its early history, including initially being on the wrong side in both World Wars, but has since established itself as a healthy democracy with a high quality of life.Añadido al timeline:
