After these many struggles Helaman wrote an epistle to Pahoran, asking for more men and provisions. Then they fortified themselves in their cities and waited.

During this time the Lamanites were also being resupplied with men and provisions, and occasionally would harass the Nephites, though no serious conflict took place.

After several months of waiting, and coming nearly to the point of starvation for lack of food, Helaman finally received provisions from Zarahemla, but only receive 2,000 men.

This scanty support was the cause of the Kingmen who had recently driven Pahoran from Zarahemla. However, this fact was not known to Helaman at the time.
