4 ene 1854 año - Kansas-Nebraska Act (“Bleeding Kansas”)
Descripción:
The Kansas-Nebraska Act instituted popular sovereignty in the Kansas and Nebraska territories. This effectively repealed the Compromise of 1820. Because of this, both abolitionists and slavery supporters flocked to these territories to vote on slavery. This resulted in a violent clash between the two sides resulting in the name “Bleeding Kansas”. As a result, the whig party essentially vanished due to many free soldiers and abolitionist refusing to become whigs and starting a new party called the “republicans”.
