The War in Afghanistan started in October 2001 with the goal of rooting out the Taliban, al Qaeda, and Osama Bin Laden. The war marked the beginning of the war on terror. It also was the first move in the so-called Bush Doctrine, which stated that America had a right to a pre-emptive war to prevent terrorist attacks from happening.
