1. Columbus – In the year 1492, American history began with Christopher Columbus discovering North America for Europeans. This is because the United States as a nation would have never existed without colonizers from Europe. Columbus landing in America had a major impact on the world, as it started mass migration of people from West Africa and Europe to North America. It also marked the beginning of the Columbian Exchange, starting worldwide globalization.
