19 abr 1545 año - Council of Trent
Descripción:
This council arose out of a concern within the Catholic Church over the Protestant Reformation. There were a few major changes that came from the council. First, traditional practices were upheld; Martin Luther had advocated for a more personal relationship w/ faith between each individual and God, but the Catholic Church denied this, which strengthened papal authority. Next, the Eucharist was updated and clarified. The bread and wine were affirmed to turn into the literal body and blood of Christ, and that the priest was the person who transformed it. The Church was able to maintain a substantial amount of power in Europe, although the divide with Protestantism remained and solidified.
