4 ene 1972 año - Equal Rights Amendment was passed
Descripción:
In 1967 there was a call for "Bill of Rights for Women" that wanted to add a call for Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Over the few years to follow an organization called National Organization of Woman (NOW) devoted a lot of their effort to help federal agencies enforce the title VII to pursue the legislature to pass the ERA, and expand their agenda to include other issues, such as the recognition that lesbian rights are "a legitimate concern of feminism".
The struggle for the ERA was the most public and significant battle to achieve women's equality. In 1972, both houses of Congress passed the ERA with an overwhelming majority to get the two-thirds requirement for constitutional amendments. The ERA needed three-fourths of the state legislatures to ratify the amendment before 1979,that was later extended to 1982, for it to become a law of the land.
