With fears of another 9/11 attack, President Bush decided to preemptively fight a war on terrorism. The first place Bush decided to fight was Iraq. Bush's administration claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction that they could use against the U.S., there was a connection between Bin Laden and Iraq, and that Hussein had committed human rights crimes against his political enemies. President Bush, with Congressional support, sent troops to Iraq on March 19, 2003 and nine months later, captured Hussein and handed him over to the Iraqi government who hung him. date is the date that the U.S. invaded Iraq.
