Common Sense is a pamphlet published by Thomas Paine, who at the time was serving in the continental army under George Washington. The pamphlet makes a compelling argument for a democratic form of government which inspired the American rebels to continue their fight against their British rulers. The pamphlet would go on to inspire the French revolution and the declaration of the rights of man.
