New Hamshire became the ninth state to ratify the US Constitution, turning it into law. The constitution included three branches of limited government with a complex system of checks and balances. The first Congress would go on to add the Bill of Rights which proved to be one of the most progressive documents in the world, providing citizens with an unprecedented number of freedoms.
The ratification of the US constitution proved that an effective government could rise from revolution. This positive outcome inspired many revolutionaries in France and Haiti in their own fights to establish a government for the people.
