Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine. It was a pamphlet that was popular in the colonies. It was a influencing factor in shaping the minds of colonists into creating a democratic union. It argued against being ruled by a government an ocean away. The British Parliament could not understand the needs of the colonies and such they only did acts that benefited the Britain not the colonies such as the Stamp Act. It also stated that monarchies have prone to corruption and as such they needed an independent American republic.
