Flappers- I chose "flappers" because women had really taken a leap from their traditional roles during this decade and had really changed the way women were viewed even in today's society. During World War I, women entered the workforce in large numbers, receiving higher wages that many working women were not inclined to give up during peacetime. Women's independence took another step forward with the passage of the 19th amendment giving them the ability to vote. With all the independence, women thought to change the way they looked and behaved as well- which was frowned upon by religious groups and some others. Flappers wore high heel shoes and threw away their corsets in favor of bras and lingerie. They applied rouge, lipstick, mascara and other cosmetics, and favored shorter hairstyles like the bob. They even took part in more reckless behavior. This has given women today the power to dress and act as they please as they are given the freedom to do so.
