Malala was shot when she was on her way home and an armed gunman got on her bus and asked for her. She was shot on the left side of her head; the bullet traveled to her neck. This left her in critical condition. She was flown to a military hospital in Peshawar. They took out a portion of her skull to reduce swelling in the brain.
