This battle was fought after the Treaty of Ghent was signed and the War of 1812 ended. Despite this, Andrew Jackson became a national hero and spread throughout America a sense of nationalism hen he defeated the British in this battle. In only the first hours of the battle, 2,000 British and only 70 Americans died.
