Ignaz Semmelweis (1847):
He was the first to notice women were dying from childbirth due to cleanliness and colleagues dismissed him
Louis Pasteur (1859):
Was the first to prove Semmelweis's theory with his famous swan neck flask experiment and eventually discovered pasteurization
Robert Koch (1872):
Used Koch's postulates to prove that microorganisms cause disease. which became the Germ Theory of Disease

Symptoms:
- Headache
- Elevated temperature
- Chills
- Vomiting
- Dry tongue and lips
- Abdominal tenderness
- Foul smell
Treatment:
antibiotics for infected. The best way to avoid is by having proper hygiene during birth.

-No antibiotics until 1930
-remains a major cause of maternal deaths in resource-poor countries.
