9 ene 1665 año - Des Groseilliers Travels to James Bay

Descripción:

Radisson aboard Eaglet, a second ship, encounters a storm and is forced to turn back. Des Groseilliers arrives at Rupert River in Hudson Bay, where the Nonsuch finds refuge from the severe weather. The crew built a stockade and a dwelling they call Charles Fort and they settled in until spring. Des Groseilliers traded for furs with nearly 300 aboriginal traders from James Bay.

Nonsuch returns to England in 1669 with a cargo valued at £1,380. Her voyage proved that a fur trade out of Hudson Bay is practical and Radisson and des Groseilliers’ plan becomes the inspiration for a great enterprise.

After deducting investments and taxes, the voyage made very little profit, but the investors are convinced Radisson and des Groseilliers are right in believing there is money to be made. In trading for furs out of Hudson Bay.
