The Declaration of Independence is the statement adopted by Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776. Signers of the statement include Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and many more. The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies separated themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War , however, was a conflict between Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies, which at the time declared independence as the United States. It spanned from the years 1775-1783. Right when the Revolutionary War began, several major battles took place.
