16 agos 1896 año - Gold discovered at Klondike, AK

Descripción:

Gold was discovered in large quantities in Rabbit Creek (modern-day Bonanza Creek) by George Carmack and Skookum Jim. Soon, the entire creek was claimed by prospectors, and 100,000 people flocked to the Alaskan Territory to strike it rich, mostly Americans. Though not as significant as the California Gold Rush, it nevertheless inspired some of the same feelings of romanticism and excitement among the American people, as well as facilitating the creation of new towns and businesses in the region. The enthusiasm for the Gold Rush petered out by 1898, with the Spanish-American War taking up the headlines, after which the rush to Alaska was left behind.
