It is important because it was the first major war in Africa. It was between the British and the Dutch. The Boers, the Dutch, hid from the British, but the British killed everyone regardless of age and gender. This made the British believe that if they could kill everyone then they would eventually kill all the Boers. The war began in 1899 and officialy ended in 1902 on May 31 by treaty.
