23 nov 1835 año - Texas Revolt

Descripción:

Cause-:
Stephen Austin led 300 settlers into Texas in 1823—they were asked by Mexico to farm the northern province of their territory, Tejas.

Issue: Texans revolted when Santa Anna enforced new laws, which included a ban on slavery and Roman Catholicism. Sam Houston led Texas and “volunteers” into battles-Alamo—and eventually defeated Santa Anna at the Batlte of San Jacinto.
Effect:
The significance of the Texas Revolt—The Mexican government refused to recognize Santa Anna surrender and the independent Republic; therefore, annexation would be delayed as a result of TWO major issues: 1) annexation would led to war with Mexico 2) annexation would revive the debate over the status of slavery in new areas. The consequence of these issues meant that the area of Texas would be independent from 1836 to 1845.
