3 mar 1865 año - Freedman's Bureau founded

Descripción:

A federal organization dedicated to helping blacks integrate into society after their emancipation. They offered legal, educational, and medical assistance, as well as help with housing and food. Tennessee President Johnson vetoed the renewal of the Bureau in February 1866, but was overturned by the radical Republican Congress. The Bureau was constantly understaffed, underfunded, and frequently assaulted by white supremacy groups like the KKK. Despite this, they managed to provide help to millions of people until their dissolution in 1872 by Congress under pressure from white Southerners
