Perhaps the most familar version of the
Microsoft Windows OS in this generation
is the Windows XP, codenamed "Whistler".
This version was a major advance from the
MS-DOS based versions of Windows, giving
a significant upgrade in security, stability,
and efficiency. It also had a greatly
improved GUI.
