After a full year of serious study of the Old Blood and the Pthumarian catacombs, a dramatic incident in Dr. Hudlaws laboratory leads to the violent death of 8 scholars including Hudlaw herself.

A lack of adherence to Master Willems cautionary guidlines is found to be the cause.

Willem founds a new adage for the Institution.
"We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood.
Our eyes are yet to open so we must Fear the old blood"
